What is a Heat Treated Pallet?

Many people don't realize until it's far too late that just because a pallet is sturdy doesn't mean it's the right tool for a particular job. Some goods and other items - like perishable food - need to be protected via more than just stability. They need to be safe from issues like pests, rodents, and even diseases during and after transportation has taken place.

That's part of the reason why heat-treated pallets are such a popular option in a variety of industries. This is a pallet that has gone through a special heat treatment process (hence the name) to help mitigate risk from some of the aforementioned issues as much as possible.

How Does Heat Treatment Work?

When a pallet is heat treated, the wood is heated to a precise temperature for a set period of time (typically 130+ degrees Fahrenheit or so). Any pests, bacteria, or other contaminants will be eliminated and the pallet itself will be safe to use again.

Benefits of Heat-Treated Pallets

Again, the major benefit of a heat-treated pallet is that it is less likely to be a safe haven for rodents, pests, or even bacteria. For the companies using those pallets, it helps to reduce the risk of contamination - preventing everything from costly recalls to the possibility that you'll make consumers ill.

Heat-treated pallets also help avoid potential problems inherent in other pest control methods, with fumigation being the top example. Naturally, fumigation is an effective way to remove something like a bug infestation - but you wouldn't want to use it around food that people will eventually eat. Now, thanks to heat-treated pallets, you don't have to.

All this, and heat-treated pallets still offer all the benefits that their traditional counterparts do. They're still made of high-quality wood and can withstand even the most rigorous manufacturing and industrial environments.

Regulations & Certifications

When you partner with Advance Pallet, you can be confident knowing that all heat-treated pallets conform to the strict ISPM 15 standard. This is a global standard that dictates how wood packaging materials must be handled. All heat-treated pallets should have the ISPM 15 mark so that you can be confident knowing that they adhere to these requirements.

Applications & Industries

Heat-treated pallets are ideal for a wide range of industries that are shipping sensitive items, including but not limited to food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and even certain types of specialty manufacturing.
